One Day Delhi to Haridwar & Rishikesh Trip by Cab

Rishikesh town and the Ganges seen from the surrounding hills

Starting from ₹10,500

Book This Trip

Haridwar and Rishikesh sit about 20 km apart on the Ganges in Uttarakhand, around 220 km — roughly four and a half hours — from Delhi. Together they are among India's most important pilgrimage towns, and Rishikesh is also known as the yoga capital of the world.

On this private one day trip, our driver picks you up early from your home or hotel in Delhi. You spend the morning at Haridwar's ghats and hilltop temples, the afternoon around the riverside ashrams of Rishikesh, and finish with the evening Ganga aarti before driving back to Delhi the same night.

It's a long day, but it lets families, couples and groups see both holy towns without booking a hotel. You travel in a clean private cab with an experienced driver, and you can skip any stop or spend longer where you like.

What To Expect

Evening crowds at Har Ki Pauri ghat in Haridwar

Expect an early start: pickup is usually before sunrise so you reach Haridwar by late morning, ahead of the biggest crowds at Har Ki Pauri. The highway is good for most of the way, and the driver stops for breakfast and tea on request.

In Haridwar you'll take a holy dip or simply watch the river at Har Ki Pauri, then visit Maya Devi, Chandi Devi and Mansa Devi — the last two by ropeway — and the eight-storey Bharat Mata Mandir. After lunch the cab takes you up to Rishikesh for the Beatles Ashram, the Laxman Jhula area and a short boat ride across the Ganges.

The day ends with the evening Ganga aarti at Parmarth Niketan, followed by a walk across Ram Jhula and the drive back to Delhi. You'll reach home late at night, so wear comfortable shoes and keep a light shawl handy in winter.

Places to Visit During Your One Day Delhi to Haridwar & Rishikesh Trip by Car

1. Har Ki Pauri

Har Ki Pauri ghat and clock tower on the Ganges in Haridwar

Haridwar · Open all day · Free

The name means 'footsteps of the Lord', and this is Haridwar's holiest ghat. Pilgrims come from across India to bathe at the Brahma Kund, where drops of amrit are said to have fallen, and many carry Ganga water home. Carry a change of clothes if you plan to take a dip.

2. Mansa Devi Temple

Mansa Devi Temple on Bilwa Parvat in Haridwar

Haridwar · Hilltop temple · Ropeway ticket extra

Set on Bilwa Parvat above the city, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Mansa Devi, believed to fulfil the wishes of her devotees. Visitors tie sacred threads to a tree in the temple as they make a wish. The ropeway ride up gives wide views over Haridwar and the river.

3. Chandi Devi Temple

Chandi Devi Temple on Neel Parvat in Haridwar

Haridwar · Neel Parvat · Ropeway ticket extra

On Neel Parvat across the river from Mansa Devi, this temple honours Goddess Chandi. A ropeway takes you up through forest to the summit, and together with Mansa Devi and Maya Devi it is one of the three Siddh Peeths of Haridwar.

4. Maya Devi Temple

Maya Devi Temple in Haridwar

Haridwar · One of the 51 Shakti Peeths

This ancient temple to Goddess Maya, Haridwar's presiding deity, is counted among the Shakti Peeths. Its courtyard also has shrines to Kamakhya and Kali, and it is a short walk from the busy market lanes near Har Ki Pauri.

5. Bharat Mata Mandir

Bharat Mata Mandir tower in Haridwar

Haridwar · Eight-storey temple to Mother India

Opened in 1983, each of its eight floors is devoted to a different theme — freedom fighters, saints, goddesses and the gods — and the top floor gives views over Haridwar. A lift runs to the upper floors.

6. Beatles Ashram

Murals at the Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh

Rishikesh · Entry ticket extra

The former meditation centre of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, where the Beatles stayed in 1968, is now part of the Rajaji Tiger Reserve. Its abandoned meditation domes are covered in colourful murals, making it a favourite stop for photographers.

7. Laxman Jhula

Laxman Jhula suspension bridge over the Ganges in Rishikesh

Rishikesh · Riverside area with cafes and temples

Legend says Lakshman crossed the Ganges here on a jute rope. The old iron suspension bridge is now closed to foot traffic, but the area around it is still lined with temples, cafes and shops, including the 13-storey Trayambakeshwar temple.

8. Parmarth Niketan & Ganga Aarti

Priests performing the evening Ganga aarti with lamps

Rishikesh · Evening aarti · Free

One of Rishikesh's largest ashrams, Parmarth Niketan holds a Ganga aarti every evening on its riverside ghat, with chanting, music and lamps floated on the water. It's the highlight of the day — arrive a little early to get a good spot on the steps.

9. Ram Jhula

Ram Jhula suspension bridge over the Ganges

Rishikesh · Pedestrian suspension bridge

This long suspension bridge links Swarg Ashram and Parmarth Niketan with the Sivananda Nagar side of the river. Walking across it after the aarti, with the lit-up ashrams behind you, is a calm way to end the trip before the drive back to Delhi.

Where to Eat

Both towns are vegetarian, and alcohol is not served near the ghats. Your driver can suggest a clean place for breakfast on the highway, and you'll find plenty of simple eateries around Har Ki Pauri and Swarg Ashram.

• Puri-sabzi and kachori at the old sweet shops on Upper Road, Haridwar
• Thali and lassi at the long-running restaurants around Swarg Ashram, Rishikesh
• Cafes with river views near Laxman Jhula for coffee and light meals
• Highway dhabas between Delhi and Haridwar for parathas and tea

What to Shop

The lanes near Har Ki Pauri and the markets around Ram Jhula are good for small souvenirs and puja items. Bargaining is normal at street stalls.

• Rudraksha beads and malas
• Brass and copper puja items, and cans for carrying Ganga jal
• Ayurvedic oils, herbal products and incense
• Yoga clothes, shawls and handicrafts in Rishikesh
