One Day Delhi to Mathura & Vrindavan Trip by Cab

Prem Mandir white marble temple in Vrindavan

Starting from ₹6,000

Book This Trip

Mathura is revered as the birthplace of Lord Krishna, and Vrindavan — just 14 km away — as the place where he spent his childhood. Mathura is about 183 km from Delhi, roughly three hours by road, which makes these twin holy towns one of the easiest pilgrimages to fit into a single day.

The day begins in Vrindavan at Prem Mandir, Shri Banke Bihari Mandir and the ISKCON temple, followed by lunch in Mathura. In the afternoon you'll visit the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi complex and Dwarkadheesh Temple before ending at Vishram Ghat on the Yamuna.

Mathura is a vegetarian temple town known for its pedas, kachori, jalebi and lassi. October to March is the most comfortable time to visit, and festivals such as Holi and Janmashtami are spectacular but extremely crowded.

What To Expect

The Yamuna river at Mathura

Pickup is early — about 5:00 AM — because the Vrindavan temples close for a few hours around midday. You'll reach Prem Mandir and Banke Bihari in the morning, when darshan is open and the lanes are still manageable.

After the ISKCON temple, the cab takes you to Mathura for lunch. The afternoon covers the Krishna Janmabhoomi complex, where phones and bags usually have to be left behind, and Dwarkadheesh Temple in the old town.

The day ends at Vishram Ghat on the Yamuna for the evening aarti, before the drive back to Delhi. You'll be home by about 9:30 PM. Dress modestly and expect to leave your shoes outside the temples.

Places to Visit on Your One Day Delhi to Mathura & Vrindavan Trip by Car

1. Prem Mandir

Side view of Prem Mandir in Vrindavan

Vrindavan · White marble temple

Dedicated to Radha-Krishna and Sita-Ram, this temple is built entirely of white marble and covered in carvings of scenes from Krishna's life. It is at its most magical in the evening, when it is lit up and the musical fountain plays.

2. Shri Banke Bihari Mandir

Shri Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan

Vrindavan · One of the holiest Krishna temples

Built in Rajasthani style, the temple houses Krishna as Banke Bihari, standing in the tribhanga pose. There are no bells or conch shells here — devotees believe the deity dislikes noise — and festivals like Holi and Janmashtami draw enormous crowds.

3. ISKCON Temple (Krishna-Balaram Mandir)

Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir, the ISKCON temple in Vrindavan

Vrindavan · Built in 1975

The Krishna-Balaram temple of ISKCON draws devotees from all over the world. Its aarti, with kirtan, flowers and lamps, is one of the most atmospheric in Vrindavan.

4. Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi

Krishna temple in Mathura

Mathura · Believed birthplace of Lord Krishna

This temple complex is built around the spot believed to be where Krishna was born. Security is tight: phones, cameras and bags usually have to be deposited before you go in.

5. Dwarkadheesh Temple & Vishram Ghat

Vishram Ghat on the Yamuna in Mathura

Mathura · Old town and Yamuna riverfront

Dwarkadheesh Temple, built in 1814 in Mathura's old town, is known for its painted ceilings and carved pillars. A short walk away, Vishram Ghat is where Krishna is said to have rested after defeating Kansa — its evening aarti, with lamps floating on the Yamuna, is a fitting end to the day.

Where to Eat

Mathura and Vrindavan are vegetarian temple towns, and alcohol is not served. Lunch is a stop in Mathura after the Vrindavan temples.
