Book This TripPlanning a Delhi to Agra trip by car? Agra is about 233 km from Delhi — roughly four hours on the Yamuna Expressway. Setting off early means you reach the Taj Mahal while the light is soft and the queues are still short.
Besides the Taj, Agra is home to Agra Fort and nearby Fatehpur Sikri, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This Agra tour from Delhi by car covers the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and the Mehtab Bagh gardens, with a lunch break in between. The city is also famous for its petha sweets, spicy chaat and marble inlay handicrafts.
Your driver collects you from your home or hotel in Delhi and stays with you all day on your Delhi to Agra trip by car. Parking, tolls and the driver’s allowance are already in the fare. The most comfortable months to go are October to March.
What to Expect on Your Delhi to Agra Trip by Car
Pickup is at about 6:00 AM, and the Yamuna Expressway makes for a smooth drive, with a breakfast stop on the way if you like. You'll reach the Taj Mahal by mid-morning — allow a couple of hours to walk the gardens, see the mausoleum up close and take photos.
After lunch, the cab takes you 2.5 km to Agra Fort, where Shah Jahan spent his last years looking out at the Taj. In the late afternoon you cross the river to Mehtab Bagh for a quieter view of the Taj as the light softens.
You start back to Delhi in the evening and are dropped home by about 10:30 PM, depending on traffic. Remember that the Taj Mahal is closed every Friday.

Places Covered on Your Agra Tour from Delhi by Car
1. Taj Mahal
Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built this white-marble mausoleum in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Around 20,000 craftsmen worked on it for about 17 years, finishing in 1653. Look for the inlaid semi-precious stones, the calligraphy around the arches and the four 40-metre minarets that frame the tomb.
2. Agra Fort
Emperor Akbar began this red-sandstone fort on the banks of the Yamuna in 1573, and it remained the main Mughal residence until 1638. Inside its walls you'll find the Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Jahangiri Mahal, Musamman Burj and Sheesh Mahal — plus a view of the Taj Mahal across the river.
3. Mehtab Bagh
First laid out by Emperor Babur, this garden on the opposite bank of the Yamuna lines up exactly with the Taj Mahal's own gardens. It's a quiet, uncrowded place to photograph the monument as the afternoon light softens.
Where to Eat in Agra
Lunch is a short stop at around 1 PM between the Taj and Agra Fort. Your driver can suggest a clean, busy place that suits your group.
• Petha — Agra's famous translucent sweet made from ash gourd
• Bedai and jalebi, the classic Agra breakfast
• Mughlai dishes such as kebabs, biryani and rich curries
• Spicy chaat at the city's street stalls
What to Shop in Agra
Agra is known for its crafts, many of them inspired by the Taj itself. Bargaining is normal at markets; buy from shops you trust for expensive pieces.
• Marble inlay (pietra dura) boxes, coasters and table tops
• Boxes of petha to take home
• Leather goods and shoes
• Hand-knotted rugs and zardozi embroidery
